Spunky Seniors wine lovers and wine connoisseurs, for the love of wine, we think you’ll like these wineries.  It’s worth the time to take a vacation into the wine country with other like-minded people and have a ton of fun. Take a look, and you decide when to go.

Wagner Vineyards
One of the early, pioneering wineries in the Finger Lakes region, it’s been a destination for more than 25 years. Look for Rieslings across the spectrum, from sweet, to semi-sweet and dry – and Riesling ice wine. Enjoy those and other varieties at the adjacent Ginny Lee Cafe restaurant. And this is the only Finger Lakes winery with its own production craft brewery onsite (with a separate tasting room).

Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard
Alongside Dr. Frank Vineyards on Keuka Lake, this winery founded by German immigrant Hermann Wiemer was one of the first to exclusively grow the classic European vinifera grapes, like Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Riesling is still king here, as it is in part of Germany. It offers nine Riesling varieties, from Dry to Late Harvest, and several reserve or select bottlings.

Hazlitt Vineyards and Winery
Hazlitt has a split personality. It’s probably best known as the maker of Red Cat, a sweet red wine made from the native Catawba grape. It is by far the best-selling wine in the Finger Lakes, and not well liked by fine wine enthusiasts. But Hazlitt also aims to make high quality vinifera, from Chardonnay and Pinot Gris to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Glenora Wine Cellars
It’s one of the oldest farm wineries in the Finger Lakes, dating to 1977, and is now known as a wine country complex: Vineyards, winery, hotel and a highly regarded restaurant, Veraisons, occupy the space overlooking the southwest side of Seneca Lake. Glenora has also held up as an example of a winery that can make quality wines at an affordable price. It makes a vast array of wines, but the Rieslings are top notch.

Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars
With its hard-to-miss Greek Revival winery building perched on a hill with one of the most stunning views anywhere in the Finger Lakes, it might be easy to overlook the wines produced at Lamoreaux Landing. Primarily focused on classic vinifera wines, look for standards like Rieslings, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir, along with outliers like Muscat Ottonel and Gruner Veltliner, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc. It also produces sparkling wines and ice wines.
